Companies ready inventory for a busy 2010 hurricane season

Posted on June 4th, 2010 at 1:23 pm

(Miami, FL  June 4, 2010) In Miami, businesses are preparing for a potentially record breaking storm season by stockpiling inventories for a quick response. “Miami has always been the hub for emergency response, and this year companies are prepositioning more relief supplies than last year,” said Ralph L. Gazitúa, President & CEO of WTDC, one of Miami’s leading Supply Chain Management providers.

“We have already received shipping containers with hundreds of generators, prepositioned for quick deployment to distributors,” said Gazitúa. “We are scheduled to receive many containers of water and canned goods in the coming weeks and have developed a program for handling Hurricane Preparedness Response,” he added.  “We are working with our customers to develop contingency plans in case of any emergency. Our headquarters warehouse in Doral has the storage capacity and receiving docks needed to the handle the demands of deploying disaster relief.”

Tropical Storm Agatha marked the beginning of an expectedly busy 2010 Hurricane Season this week, causing widespread flooding and damage across Guatemala. The National Hurricane Center predicts between 14 to 23 Named Storms, with 8 to 14 becoming Hurricanes and 3 to 7 becoming Major Hurricanes (winds above 111 miles per hour).  They are predicting this season to be “active to extremely active”.

WTDC, one of Miami’s oldest and largest providers of Supply Chain Management, has already hired additional staff and will continue to add personnel as the storm season and its demands develop.
