Miami Today published an article this week (County targeting foreign trade zone in north half under seaport's control, Miami Today, November 24, 2011: page 2) highlighting Miami-Dade County's intent to administer a Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) at the Port of Miami (POM). Gary M. Goldfarb, WTDC Executive Vice President, was reached for comment. While acknowledging it could take a year for federal approval, Goldfarb said the new FTZ status would be an asset to the community and allow it to expand its international reach. "Foreign trade zones create jobs," Mr. Goldfarb said, "and that's the most important thing right now."
